The standard reach-in closet — one rod, one shelf — is the single most underused space in most Fraser Valley homes. A custom system roughly doubles what it can hold, without touching the walls or the door.
Reach-in closets are the workhorses of the house — the bedroom closet, the kids' closet, the guest room closet, the one in the condo hallway that has to hold coats, linens and luggage all at once. Builders almost always fit them with a single wire or laminate shelf and one hanging rod, which leaves a huge column of dead air above the clothes. We replace that with a layout built around what actually needs to live in the space: double-hang rods for shirts and folded pants stacked on top of each other, a long-hang section for dresses and coats, and shelving sized to the closet's real height instead of a generic mid-point.
This is one of the most requested projects we do in Surrey, Langley and Abbotsford condos and townhomes, where closet openings are often tight and every inch has to earn its place. Soft-close drawers built into the base of the closet add a home for folded items and accessories that would otherwise pile up on a shelf, and door-mounted racks or hooks put ties, scarves and bags within reach instead of buried at the back.
